"Like a radio station taken over by revelutionary acid-heads."
Unnerving and hilarious at the same time. Runs the gamut from scary to peaceful to unsettling.
Unchartered Universal Euphoria is alive with energy, beauty and power. Bobos deconstructs familiar and iconographic sound sources in ways that are thrilling and fresh.
His unsettling tirade of gibberish cannot be denied.
This isn't music. It's screaming duck.
Ros Bobos Unchartered Universal Euphoria (www.rosbobos.com) A fellow from the New England called Andrew Hannah makes these often funny and fascinating sonic collages as Ros Bobos; he’s a filmmaker as well. He likes to recycle sounds from old instructional records, new age babble, discarded videotapes, CB jabbering nonsense, a poetically gifted evangelist, a Laser lens cleaner, random spatial disorientation, a cheezy synthesizer rendition of Bolero, and occasional trance states. A phrase will repeat endlessly, hazy ambient sounds rumble, clashing sensibilities do cultural oil and water mixes, a decidedly stoned mentality delivers microscopic details and goes into dublike repetitive modes to great hypnotic effect. The extremely mundane becomes horrifically significant, the wallpaper begins to bleed, and I wrap my head in tinfoil to filter out the voices before I leave the house.
Welcome return of this American eccentric. Unchartered Universal Euphoria is a unique blend of high kitsch insanity and low grade surrealism which Ros Bobos does to perfection. He splices together only the choicest moments of high weirdness and compelling freakery into new forms that defy all rational understanding. These are wild experiments so potent you'll think you're dreaming.
"I tell you. you haven't lived until you've seen Ros Bobos live, wearing a plastic shower cap playing a PVC-pipe didgeridoo."
"Whenever I air Unchartered Universal Euphoria on 89.3 fm, the phones light up. People love Ros! He does a tremendous job on this CD. If I could, I would play the entire Cd for the audience without interuption. Make more Ros, the listeners want to hear more!"
